Dento Hon Gyokuro "Seiun"
伝統本玉露 星風
Origin
Yame, Fukuoka
Harvest
May 2023
Yame is a special place. It is defined by dramatic mountains and cascading waterfalls. It is also known to produce the best Gyokuro in Japan, making it home to the traditional craftsmanship for this kind of tea. Over 100 years of experience making Gyokuro lives in Yame and thus, the tea that comes from here has set the standard for Gyokuro around the world for a very long time.
This tea is the standard of Yame Dento Hon Gyokuro, and should be tasted as a benchmark for this region. The dry tea smells rich, nutty, and full bodied. We taste its first infusion in the back of the throat, and the experience of it extends for a long time after we swallow.
This gyokuro has a particularly dynamic flavour that makes reference to many ‘green’ things, both sweet and savoury. We find more astringency in the second infusion, but still with a full, luxurious mouthfeel. Across infusions the liquor is cloudy and glowing, inviting us to stare into the nutritive complexities it contains.
