Snow Chrysanthemum & Pu’erh
昆仑雪菊生普
Harvest
April 2024
Origin
Jinggu, Yunnan
In 2012 Tang Wang embarked on a journey to the west of China, across the ancient Tea Silk Road, to Xinjiang, driven by curiosity about the ancient tradition of the Uyghur people to use Snow Chrysanthemum flowers as tea and medicine. Since then he has been experimenting with infusing and blending Snow Chrysanthemum into the pu’erh he crafts back in Yunnan. After 12 years of practice he felt he had perfected the combination of this unlikely pair, releasing this tea for the first time in 2025. Now we have something that we can hardly believe exists: old grove pu’erh from the ancient forests of Yunnan pressed with Snow Chrysanthemum flowers from the Kunlun Mountain range, that bloomed at 9000 ft above sea level.
Tang Wang’s craftsmanship is focused on preserving as much of the essence and vitality of the flowers and pu’erh as possible, honouring the energetic and medicinal potential of these plants. He shade dries the chrysanthemum to cure and preserve it, while the pu’erh is aged for 3 years to deepen its flavors. Then the chrysanthemum flowers and pu’erh are meticulously blended, steamed, and pressed into cakes.
The result is really a masterpiece, uniting the wisdom of the ancient forests and the snow capped mountains. We are invited to feel the pure snow of the Kunlun Mountains melt into the roots of 200 year old pu’erh trees in Yunnan, an impossible terrain that summons freshness and sweetness in the depths of our spirit. The energetics of the tea are predictably strong, and the slightly ascorbic quality of the flowers accelerate its movement through the body. This is a medicinal tea that will be very supportive for us during winter months.
