Lion King Incense Burner

Over the past few months many of you will have seen this majestic little creature at our shop, perhaps even with mesmerizing spindles of smoke emitting from its parted mouth. This creature is our favourite incense burner, not to mention, Cultivate’s dearest inanimate friend. 

The Lion King is handcrafted by the young ceramicist, Zhu Ji, in Jingdezhen. He has formed it out of special red clay native to the region where he works, then fired it at 1300 degrees Celsius in the kiln. 

We love many details about this incense burner – the way smoke pushes out from its decorated body and its broad smile, how activated the creature feels when something burns inside of it, and how the red clay becomes variegated and burnished over time and use. This piece brings something very enchanting, and also very cute, to our everyday routine that we are happy to be able to share it with you.
