Ancient Spring "Orchid"

April 2020

Jinggu, Yunnan

This is an outstanding full-bodied and deep pu erh, where the energy from the trees really comes through. The leaves are from an ancient tea garden consisting of less than 200 trees of the Mengku varietal. The garden, hidden deep on the west facing side of the mountains at 1830m elevation, is only accessible by a steep trek along the pine trees in the forest. The trees are between 100 to 150 years old, and were planted by the great-grandfather of a local villager.

Mr. Tang is a very special tea farmer - he is committed to organic and biodynamic farming methods and all his teas are either organic or from wild arbor trees. He crafts the teas himself with the utmost patience and care, adhering to traditional craftsmanship.

The tea is made exclusively from first harvest leaves in the spring. The leaves are only harvested once a year so all their energy is concentrated in this first flush in the spring. This tea has a strong “cha qi” or tea energy. On the palate, it is deep, full bodied with distinct floral notes. The age of the trees come through in its strength and character. Each infusion uncovers more depth of flavor and aroma.
