Yame is a special place. It is defined by dramatic mountains and cascading waterfalls. It is also known to produce the best Gyokuro in Japan, making it home to the traditional craftsmanship for this kind of tea. Over 100 years of experience making Gyokuro lives in Yame and thus, the tea that comes from here has set the standard for Gyokuro around the world for a very long time.
This tea is known as the most popular gyokuro from Hoshino. Some will say it is the essence of Yame gyokuro. It is a traditional blend of the varietals Saemidori, Tsuyuhikari, and Okumidori, mixed to produce a balanced tea rich in umami.
The dry tea is very exciting. It’s thin, dark needles smell milky and bright, like cotton candy or rock sugar. The clear, green liquor has the weight of liquid metal in the mouth, sinking quickly into the whole body. Its second infusion is uplifted, as minty, pine notes appear in its otherwise very round body. The consistent, voluminous mouthfeel is a testament to its quality.
