Shincha Fresh Harvest Matcha
This is our first year receiving a fresh harvest matcha at Cultivate. The leaves were harvested in late April, 2023 and we have been eagerly awaiting its arrival. Very limited quantity available.
The freshness of this tea is immediately evident. The bright, pale-green powder smells unbelievably sweet; even a bit like marshmallows! Its taste, however, is highly unusual, and a far deeper experience of ceremonial grade matcha than we expected.
Once whisked it smells oily, like resin. Its flavour resides in the same green world as cruciferous vegetables and evergreen trees, with an earthy plantlike finish that takes us right into the forest floor.
Origin: Yame County, Fukuoka Prefecture.
Size: 20g tin
2g ⋅ 80°C ⋅ 60ml ⋅ bamboo whisk

Yame, Fukuoka is a tea producing region famous for gyokuro 玉露 and matcha. It is located on the southernmost Japanese island of Kyushu. The tea comes from what was once a small village named Hoshino, before it merged with neighbouring villages to form the city of Yame. Yame spans a mountainous area, with the Hoshino River flowing through it from East to West.
The land here is very fertile and, at a higher altitude, the air is continually moist and foggy. Tea trees grow steadily and slowly in these conditions, which gives both their tea’s sweetness and its savory, “umami” flavors depth and complexity.
