Tea & Wagashi Box: Valentine's Day

We are releasing a special Tea & Wagashi Box with the talented wagashi artist, Saki Fukuda for this … flirtatious time of year. 

As February passes we take time to notice whatever enlivens us, romance what is closest to us, renew our interest in enchanting and being enchanted, and of course, begin to court Spring, whose sweetness will soon inflect our air. 

Together, Saki’s beautiful 4 piece wagashi reflect this stirring season that marks the beginning of Winter’s unwinding. It opens with a perfumed, rose nerikiri, intensifies through winter jasmine uiro mochi, and uplifts us with a green sprouting gyuhi mochi, before finishing with a red shiso domyoji mochi that poetically beckons spring rain. 

We’ve paired this seasonal wagashi with a fresh harvest of our Jasmine Snow Flake tea from Emei, Sichuan. There is perhaps nothing more compelling than the arresting smell of night blooming jasmine flowers, however this tea balances the intense allure of these blossoms with the tranquility and patience of winter. A gentle, rock-sugar sweetness underlies the aroma of the flowers, grounding the florality and pairing beautifully with the wagashi. After the tea is swallowed an impression of the jasmine lingers on our breath – so much so that, if you speak, you will find wet jasmine blossoms pasted to your words. 

Each set comes with 4 wagashi, 1 kuromoji pick to eat the wagashi with, and 1 serving of tea to be shared, inside a customized wooden box. 

Once purchased, the box must be picked up at our shop during store hours (12 to 6 PM) on the date that you selected with your pre-order, on Friday February 14 or Saturday February 15.  The wagashi is best enjoyed fresh, within 1 day.
