Chawan by Tomomi

This chawan crafted by Tomomi Nakamura is a part of a small collection of ceramics that just arrived at our shop in December 2025, from her studio in Tsuroka, Yamagata. 

A hand-made piece by Tomomi Nakamura. Without any use of the wheel we feel her experienced touch in every part of this chawan – from its delicate, even contours to its soft and dynamic surface treatment. The matte glaze, with its bright, earth-bound tones and ashy markings, appears wood fired even though it was masterfully created using only an electric kiln.

Delicate and storied, one will never tire looking at it. 

** Please note that, as each chawan is made by hand and naturally fired, they differ slightly in size, shape, colorations, and tone. The actual item you receive may have slight variations to the one photographed; these variations are an intentional part of this collection.
