Every year in October a small village in Fujian is flooded with the sweet fragrance of osmanthus. The bloom season is very short, so this intensely aromatic moment only lasts about 2 weeks.

The people who live in Fangting could not know any tree better than they do osmanthus; the harvesting of osmanthus flowers has a 300 year old history in the village. For the two weeks that the trees are in bloom life for the villagers changes dramatically: everyone stops their regular routines to participate in the annual harvest.

Our Gold Osmanthus flowers are from centuries-old trees that stand in front of the home of Wang Nianping. Year round, the trees are tended to naturally, without fertilizers or chemicals. They are harvested exactly as is the tradition of the village, and freeze dried the day they have fallen off their tree.

There is nothing like opening a shipment of freshly harvested Gold Osmanthus. The tiny yellow blossoms are abundant and intoxicating. This is one of the most aromatic and potent flower teas in our collection.

This year's harvest is even more robust than previous years. Both the pigment of the flowers and the liquor they brew have a more concentrated pigment of sunshine yellow. The tea tastes intensely fruity and eye-widening tropical notes are extra punchy. It is so full bodied it reminds us of mango juice. Enchanting and all-encompasing, Gold Osmanthus inflects everything with its bright, nutritive spirit.

These teas are potent and can become too strong or bitter if brewed for too long. Follow the infusion times above and start on the shorter side. Use boiling water, but if the tea tastes too strong, reduce the amount of tea in the vessel or shorten the infusion time.
