Yukiha Cup
This cup crafted by Hidekazu Nakamura is one of 10 pieces from the collection he made for our shop in November 2025, at his studio in Tsuruoka, Yamagata.
The cup has two glazes applied to it: a titanium matte glaze first, then the shirahagi – a slightly glossy white glaze – is sprayed onto each bowl. In the kiln the shirahagi melts and reveals its opalescence. Hidekazu puts a great deal of thought and creativity into the surfaces that emerge when different glazes interact with each other, and takes great joy when something unexpected develops.
Look closely - and then even more closely - like you are looking for the soft arches of snow drifts across a field, and you will begin to see how varied and wondrous this glaze is. Many shades of white and many ways of reflecting light are present in this cup. You could say that it is as full as it is empty.
** Please note that, as each cup is made by hand and naturally fired, they differ slightly in size, shape, colorations, and tone. The actual item you receive may have slight variations to the one photographed; these variations are an intentional part of this collection.
